Why does this still surprise me?

At about 2pm today, I heard a sound that I have grown to absolutely abhor, the water draining from the heating registers in my house. The cold doesn't bother me so much, I can always turn on the electric heater if I have to, it's just not having running water that pisses me off. I don't know why it really surprises me when this happens, this is the 4th winter I've been in China and the 4th winter in a row that this has happened ... it's almost as surprising as Alibaba, a Chinese net company, criticizing Yahoo for supporting Google's stance against hacking (possibly done by someone, or some entity from within China). I can't believe any city that boasts being as advanced as Dalian does could have such shitty infrastructure. If it's not some dumbass University down the street digging up a water main while trying to repave one of their parking lots, it's some dumbass in the building who cracks a pipe when remodeling their apartment ... the latter is much worse. Anyway, since I have no running water, I can't do a lot of things, like a take a shower and go to work, or take a shower and go out with my friends who don't work at night, or wash any dishes, cook anything that requires water, wash laundry, etc etc etc. I think all of the things that I take for granted that I can do with water are the ones that piss me off the most. I have to have a shower before I go to work, if I can't get one, I'm uncomfortable all night (mostly because I have super greasy skin). Also, since I was awake when the water went out, all I could think about when I tried to sleep was the water being out and how long will it be out, hence, I didn't sleep worth a shit.

Oh well, guess tonight will be movie night.
