1.29.2010 Morning Walk

Last night was not a good night for me at work. I had a lot on my mind and it frankly put me in a pissy mood. After work, I decided I needed a walk to clear my mind. I walked until my back got stiff, but my mind wasn't clear yet, so I kept walking. I walked until my feet started to hurt, but my mind still wasn't clear, so I kept walking. I continued to walk until nearly every part of my body physically hurt and I was having trouble putting one foot in front of the other, then, three hours after I started, I finally decided to stop and eat breakfast. My mind still wasn't clear, but I came to terms with some things and changed my mood quite dramatically.

Here's a map for all 15.3 kilometers (9.5 miles for you Americans):

There is something that sticks out in mind in nearly every walk I take, there were 2 for todays. The first was the reason I was walking. The second, while sitting at the Shengli Square Amici, I saw a man come in and call his wife to join him. Shortly after she arrived, he called a business contact and started talking business. This isn't uncommon, but what struck me is that about 2 minutes after the wife's food was delivered, she got ill. She couldn't sit up straight, she could barely move, and the whole time, the husband continued to talk on his cell phone, not even noticing her. It wasn't until he'd hung up the phone and emptied half a pot of tea that he finally asked her if she was ok and after she answered she wasn't, they still sat there until he finished another pot of tea before he got up, grabbed some bags, and left her sitting alone Shock . This concerned me, but I thought he might be just getting rid of some of the baggage so he could come back and help her. Well, he did come back, 10 minutes later, and grabbed some more bags, and her purse, then left her alone ... again Jawdropping! . This time, she got up and very weakly followed him, but he was way out of site before she got more than 50 or 60 steps away from the restaurant. This struck me as both callous and uncaring and only reinforced my thought process on why I had started this long walk.
